| 説明 | ■作品概要｜Rintrik かつてとても美しかった谷があった。若い恋人たちや旅行者の多くが訪れたその谷は、しかしいつの頃からか若い恋人たちが生まれたばかりの自分たちの赤ん坊を投げ捨てに来る場所となってしまった。それも日に20体、30体という赤ん坊の遺体が投げ捨てられるようになった。あるときふらりと現れてその谷に住まうようになった盲目の老女リントリク。彼女は雨の日も嵐の日もただ捨てられた赤ん坊を拾い埋葬し続けた。最初は彼女の存在を恐れた村人たちもいつしか彼女を畏れ敬うようになっていった。 ある夜、一人の若者がリントリクのもとに赤ん坊を抱えて訪ねてくる。その赤ん坊を若者は埋葬してくれとリントリクに願う。その後、その赤ん坊の母親である若い娘と、娘の父親である猟師が現れ... ダナルトは、ジャワのケジャウェン（※ヒンズー、アニミズム、イスラムがミックスした民族宗教）の精神的な教えをルーツに持つ神秘主義的な作家である。shelfの矢野は、社会的、文化的、宗教的文脈や価値観のまったく異なるこの作家のテキストを丹念に翻訳するところから始め、他者理解の可能性と、生と死あるいはアジア文学における女性の描かれ方について、舞台制作を通じて探求を試みる。またこの作品は、東京－ジャカルタを結ぶ長期国際共同制作プロジェクト「交差／横断するテキスト：ミステリーとミスティカルのあいだで」の第一弾として計画された。クリエイションパートナーであるLab Teater Ciputatのバンバン・プリハジは今回、shelfがダナルトの『Rintrik』に挑むのと同じく、三島由紀夫の『卒塔婆小町』を舞台化する。 ■演出ノート｜Rintrikについて 『Rintrik』の舞台を大胆に現代の都市に置き換えたい。原作の小説の持つ鄙びた土地、荒んだ大地のイメージを都市の騒乱とその中にあることの孤独とに置き換え、老女リントリクの持つ泥や埃に塗れた身体と不可思議な聖性、その清浄さについて、神経質なまでに滅菌された現代の都市空間においてそれを誇張して表現したい。イスラム教、あるいは一神教の理解は、私にはとても難しい。しかし、ケジャウェンのアニミズム的な要素を梯子にすれば、ダナルトの考える神という存在にどこか理解が届きそうな気がしている。誤解、誤読を恐れずにこの神秘主義的な小説を、まさに今、この大きな困難を迎えている現代を生きる人間のための一つの寓話劇として、時代を生きる指針を指し示せればと思う。 |
