実演鑑賞
満足度★★★★
いかにもイギリスの実話ベースらしいウエルメイドプレイである。
第二次大戦中、男優が戦地に出征して、俳優はもとより表方も裏方も手が足りなくなって、家で裁縫編み物をするとされていた女性たちが職場に進出してくる。その実例は今までもいくつもの映画で見てきたが、これは女性だけで劇団を作ってシェイクスピアをはじめさまざまな演目をもって国中を回ろうという移動演劇の劇団が素材になっている。
２００４年の初演（イギリス）と言うが、構成は昔のウエルメイドプレイのスタイルで、一幕はその運動が一応の成功を収めるまで、二幕は、その後彼らはどうなったかという物語で、全体としては保守的だったイギリスの女性観の中でジェンダー問題を問うドラマになっている。結局劇団員は７名で活動するのだが、それぞれのエピソードも丁寧で一幕１時間半、十分の休憩で二幕１時間２０分。合計３時間。日本だと「紙屋町さくらホテル」のような話なのだが、向こうは苦労はしたろうが戦勝国、こちらは完敗。ひがむわけではないが、ウエストエンドで受けそうな愛国モノの調子もあって、日本人が今見るのはかなりつらい。戦時中のドラマはどうしても戦争の行方が影を落とす。
それはおくとして、登場人物十五人も居る集団劇を観客８０名くらいしか入らないこのPitで上演している割には、焦点が定まらない。演出は外部演出の千葉哲也だが、狭いところで健闘しているが、話の流れはよくわかるが、結局女だけの劇団という事実以上の魅力に乏しい（上述の本のせいもある）。俳優も近いところで見ているので、技量の程がよくわかる。全員、自分の役をつかもうと懸命だが、全体に貢献する華のある俳優がいない。これだけ出れば、一人や二人、目立つ俳優がいるものだが、いない。
この劇団は新劇系の中でも、あまり前衛的でもないメジャー系の翻訳劇を取り上げてきたのは評価できるのだが、演出者をいつも借りてくると言うのでは、カラーが定まらない。
日頃稼いでいる吹き替え調になってしまうのもやむを得ない。残念なところだ。 -
実演鑑賞
満足度★★★★
「ラビット・ホール」を上質な舞台にした昴の同じく翻訳物の舞台という事で、迷いなく観に行く（千葉哲也演出というのも後押ししたかもだが当日は認識がなかった）。膨大な量の戯曲（200頁とか）を大幅に刈り込んで上演とのこと。冒頭雑然とした「稽古場」に人が訪れ、どうやら亡霊らしき者も現われたり。でもって人物らの会話が喧しく交わされるが個体識別が追い付かず寝落ち。どうにか復活して観始める。「劇的」な場面が立ち上がる。休憩後物語は動きを見せ、これは感動物の戯曲であるのだな（そして俳優はそう演じているのだな）と遅ればせに悟り、引き込まれた。イギリスで戦時中、女性だけで結成された劇団の成功と苦悩、破綻と和解が描かれる。不幸な死と生命の誕生で締め括られる（という意味ではオーソドックスな）戦争を題材とした舞台だが、戦争そのものは後景にあって描かれるのは人とその背景、相互の関係性である（悲劇としての戦争を安易に借用していない）。休憩込みの三時間。
